Drone Warfare and the Brain Injury Crisis: Dr. James Kelly Sounds the Alarm in Stars and Stripes

As drone warfare becomes more common on modern battlefields, the nature of military injuries is shifting. Brain injuries now account for the majority of U.S. casualties in the Iran conflict, yet there is still no FDA-approved treatment for TBI and no precision diagnostic tool to identify it in the field. In a new op-ed in Stars and Stripes, Invisible Wounds Foundation Chief Medical Scientist Dr. James Kelly breaks down what that means for the thousands of service members and veterans living with blast-induced brain injuries.

Dr. Kelly draws on his experience founding the National Intrepid Center of Excellence at Walter Reed to make the case for urgent investment in military TBI research. Invisible Wounds Foundation is answering that call, building a research roadmap guided by our Medical and Scientific Advisory Council to identify and fund the top diagnostic and scientific priorities at leading institutions across the country.
